How we check.
No reviews to game and no one paying for a spot. The list comes from two Oregon state records, matched shop by shop.
1. The electrical license
Oregon's Building Codes Division licenses electrical contractors. We start from its public list of every active Electrical Contractor (C) license, and keep the shops with an Oregon address in Washington, Multnomah and Clackamas counties. That came to 367 licenses on Oct 15, 2026.
We leave out city crews, school districts and other public agencies. They hold the license for their own buildings, and you can't hire them.
2. The contractor license
The Construction Contractors Board (CCB) licenses most people who work on Oregon buildings for pay. We match each electrical license to an active CCB license by business name. The CCB record gives us the phone number, what the license covers (home jobs, commercial jobs or both), the bond, the liability insurance, and the year the business was first licensed.
346 shops matched both records. 14 didn't match cleanly, usually because the two records spell the name differently, so they are left off until we can confirm them.
3. What the tags mean
- Home jobs. The CCB license includes a residential endorsement. In Oregon, a contractor needs one to work on homes.
- Commercial only. The CCB license covers commercial work but not homes.
- Lead-safe certified. The business is certified by the CCB for lead-based paint renovation, which matters in homes built before 1978.
Check any license yourself
Records change between our updates. Before you hire anyone, look them up on the state's own sites:
- CCB license search ↗: search by name or CCB number.
- BCD license holder search ↗: search by name or license number.
Raw data: BCD active licenses and CCB active licenses on data.oregon.gov.
What we don't check
A license means a shop is allowed to do the work and has a bond and insurance on file. It doesn't tell you whether they do good work, show up on time or charge fairly. Get more than one quote, ask for references, and get the price in writing.
